Description

What do you know, RED: The Island Storybook turns 25 (volumes) in March! When we started out, a little over ten years ago, we had no idea where this RED road would lead or how long it would last, and WOW, what a thoroughly enjoyable trip it has been so far. To all of you tellers and lovers of stories, we couldn’t do it without you, and Islanders don’t seem to be running out of stories, so the journey continues. We hope you enjoy volume 25 of RED, as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

In this volume, as usual, we’re happy to showcase a variety of exciting new voices, and many of the regulars you’ve come to love.

We’re extremely pleased to welcome PEI Poet Laureate, Julie Pellessier-Lush into the pages of RED, to tell us about her deep connection to a Mi’Kmaq drum. An instrument of great personal importance to the author, and likewise to the culture of her community and their proud history.

Another first timer who we hope will be back again is Bonnie LecLair, who has contributed a beautifully written and touching story about her mother, titled “My Mom, a Labour Strike and a Past Pandemic.”

Keith Milligan has pitched in with a story about a little known monster that inhabits rural PEI, in his piece “The Gorbine.” Believe us, if you’d ever seen this monster, you’d remember it.

Plus, we’ll be announcing the champion of our first annual Saucy Pickle Award for the Islands finest mustard pickles. Twenty six master picklers took part and one was crowned Saucy Pickle Champion.

Back issues of Red Magazine are also available.
